Mr Yunupingu founded and was the lead singer of celebrated Indigenous band Yothu Yindi. He was the Uncle of very talented singer Geoffrey Gurrumul Yunupingu.

Dreamtime Art would like to recognise and thank Mr Yunupingu and Yothu Yindi for making Indigenous culture known on an International level with their catchy and culture-embedded songs.

Known for hit songs 'Treaty', co-written by Paul Kelly and Djapana (Sunset Dreaming) from their album 'Tribal Voice', Mr Yunupingu's contribution to the Indigenous community as an educator and entertainer has been a great example for the Indigenous people.

In December 2012, the Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA) inducted the band into the ARIA Hall of Fame, as part of the ARIA Music Awards of 2012.

Mr Yunupingu was only 56 and died of kidney disease - an ever growing problematic disease within the Indigenous communities.
